Transition Year

About Us

Transition Year is an optional one-year programme before commencing the senior cycle. Transition Year in St. Mary's (first introduced in 1975) is focussed on promoting maturity with the emphasis on developing skills and independent study habits. The Transition Year programme offers abroad variety of topics and subjects thus laying a solid foundation for the Leaving Certificate programmes.

The programme includes English, Irish, Mathematics, European Languages, Music, Drama, Public Speaking, Media Studies, Video Production, Business with Mini Company, Work Exprerience and the E.C.D.L.

Modules of (i) History/ Geography/ Home Economics (ii) Physics/ Chemistry/ Biology (iii) Architecture/ Craft/ Art (iv) Social Concern/ Religon (v) First Aid/ Law (vi) Youth Leadership Programme (vii) Outdoor Pursuits and (vIII) Stage Production are provided
